Cathedral of Palermo
A cathedral is often the identity of an entire community, which beyond the purely religious aspects, recognizes in its architecture the hints of its own history.
So the Cathedral of Palermo, built in the 12th century by the Normans on the pre-existing Friday mosque, has witnessed miracles, riots and popular jubilations, assassinations, disasters, famine, masses, etc..
Our visit embraces almost all the locations proposed by the cathedral, namely the tombs, the crypt, the sanctuary and the cathedral itself.
The crypt offers interesting traces of the ancient mosque, a treasure in which some masterpieces stand out. The strictly burial area is an opportunity to leaf through some important pages of local and non-local history.
The presbytery we pass through presents a prestigious chapter, the first seat of the Norman crown that gave Palermo the status of capital.
The tombs, although at the back of the church, devoid of ancient and secular respect, are prestigious with three kings including two emperors of the Holy Empire and an empress queen, evoking perhaps the most beautiful page in Sicilian history.

La nostra visita, in più di un notevole lasso di tempo, abbraccia il massimo visitabile proposto dalla cattedrale, cioè tombe, cripta, santuario e cattedrale. La salita ai tetti non richiedendo la presenza di un conferenziere è lasciata all’iniziativa dei partecipanti.
La cripta offre delle tracce interessanti dell’antica moschea in più di un tesoro nel quale spiccano alcuni capolavori. La zona strettamente sepolcrale è l’occasione di sfogliare alcune pagine importanti della storia locale e non.
