Casa Professa
Casa Professa is one of the most important sites of the Sicilian ecclesial heritage.
Built in the late sixteenth century over a pre-existing Templar Church, S. Maria delle Grotte gradually became the Church of Jesus, the third settlement of the Society of Jesus in Palermo.
Suffice it to say that its ornament took two centuries to complete. We are constantly in the superlative!
Our visit is very informative, rich in cultural and historical roots, which prepare the visitor for a greater understanding of a program then revolutionary, anchored in the convictions of the Jesuits, renewers with the Council of Trent of the Latin Church’s entire communication.
The Order's vast and well known culture is put into every detail as a contribution to the renewal of ancient archetypes by these masters of pedagogy: so for the symbolisms, mythologies, Jewish roots and references to historical events...
